I think Im not going to use the phrase birth experience any - TopicsExpress

I think Im not going to use the phrase birth experience any longer. Just birth. Tacking the word experience on there 1) reiterates the idea that the journey and the outcome are wholly separate things, and 2) emphasizes that there is more than one subjective experience of the same birth, and while that is true, I would argue that the mothers experience should be the default--she should never have to specify that it was her experience (the baby, obviously, cant communicate his/hers and is tied to the mothers, as well) Whew! That was a mouthful. Sunday evening thoughts.... :) I should add... Im not saying it is not a useful phrase or that it is responsible for the implications I mentioned, at all----just that I have seen it used in a derogatory way enough lately that Im wanting to communicate with a little more clarity about the experience of birth.
