I think Ive learned more valuable lessons this year than any year - TopicsExpress

I think Ive learned more valuable lessons this year than any year before. After twenty years in the business I thought I knew a great deal about filmmaking. But it wasnt until I stepped into the role of director that I truly began to understand and have mad respect for this difficult and challenging art form. One of the greatest lessons Ive learned is how to treat people. Hollywood is a small town and people are constantly working and crossing paths. So it all comes back around. As a producer I used to get quite upset with people when they disappointed me or didnt do things the way I wanted them done. After all it was costing me money, I reasoned. But Ive since learned that there is no benefit in causing strained relationships and you definitely dont want to make enemies of people. Producing always came very easily to me and I feel that I have a natural ability for it, but directing is much harder for me. Im having to really study and grow and learn from my mistakes. Its been humbling to say the least. And its helped me realize that we all make mistakes, and yes, sometimes we hire and work with the wrong people. Thats going to happen. But now I just want to create the best product possible while also fostering true friendships and relationships. We should all treat each other with kindness, empathy and compassion. Its just easier that way. LOL Happy filmmaking! :-)
