I think I’ve pretty much exhausted most of the interesting stuff - TopicsExpress

I think I’ve pretty much exhausted most of the interesting stuff to print out of the 1958 phone book. If any of you have stuff you might want me to look up and post, please feel free to leave a message here and I’ll try to find it. I love posting stuff mainly because I can then read all the comments. It’s almost impossible to post something that won’t trigger memories from friends or family members. We all have little gaps in our memories and I’ve learned so much from people about stuff I’ve long forgotten. Seeing all the comments here reminds me that I grew up in a special place and time, a bridge between the age of machinery and the age of electronics, a period of amazing change. Lebanon was a wonderful place to grow up in, (although you probably couldn’t have convinced me of that when I was a teenager: “NOTHING ever happens here!!!!! There’s NOTHING to do!”) where we had incredible freedom to explore and learn without our parents being sick that some awful thing was going to happen if we were out of their sight for more than a couple of hours. We grew up knowing our neighbors and being surrounded by kids to play with. You didn’t have to plan, you just stepped out the door and you’d likely run into a playmate before you took 50 steps. On a warm summer night it seemed like half the porches in the neighborhood would have someone sitting on them, just watching the world go by. People were out on the sidewalk, kids were everywhere playing hide and seek, kick the can, or playing with hula-hoops.
