I think everyone has their own ideas about this. Personally, I find it a beautiful little movie, but also a little sugary and wide-eyed. I also understand the point that Myers, the biologist mentioned in the story, makes though I dont think it accurately reflects what Sagan was getting at with this words. I also have some picky points about the movie. You wont find people walking on anything that close to Jupiter without extraordinary protective technology, for example, because the radiation that planet gives off is immense. The same goes for the astronaut floating through Saturns rings, because with objects that close together, odds of not getting splattered by one would be pretty slim, I would think. As I said, picky picky. But the overall message Sagan has, that humankind needs to explore and so we NEED to get out there, is a hard one to dislike (particularly for the romantics among us!).
