I think, for me, it was just easier to live in denial for many years instead of thinking about all that I knew was lurking in almost every product within our home...from cleaners to baby wipes to disinfectant wipes to pesticides, antibacterial soaps, hand sanitizers, sunscreen, even disposable diapers!...and on and on the list goes. It was overwhelming to think about. Once we began slowly experimenting and integrating a more natural homemade mentality to save money I realized just how easy to is to replace so much of what is being brought into our home. As time consuming as it would seem to be I have learned it is very simple, quick, and easy to make our own version of pretty much everything even while running a house of 14 people. Many of the recipes are so simple older kids can throw them together quickly. We have made our own wipes since baby #6, diaper ointment, cleaners, bug repellents, stove top scrub, hand sanitizers, lotions, disinfectant wipes and have recently begun gathering recipes for even make up. Our skin is the largest organ on our body and absorbs up to 60% of whatever it comes into contact with. Not only is it significantly more cost effective to begin your own journey into a more DIY approach, it keeps your family safe. consumerreports.org/cro/news/2011/07/don-t-spray-sunscreens-on-kids-at-least-for-now/index.htm
