I think if she was running her own private clinic Id say that its up to her. This is an example of what happens when extremist religion, or a right wing religious agenda based political party such as The Wildrose Party (modeled after the US Tea Party) gets a wiff of power. They start imposing their belief systems onto others. You cant deny someone, something they are entitled to under the constitution in a publicly funded system and use your religion as an excuse in a pluralistic society. She can have her own beliefs and she can choose not to practice medicine any longer in the public domain. Either of those options are open to her. However she cant refuse service to others. Now lets play this out a little further ... what if everyone in our society decided to behave this way? Decided to not respect someone elses point of view on the basis of religion? Would we have restaurants that only served Muslims? Teachers who only allowed the children of one specific religion in their classrooms? Yes, folks individual rights can be taken too far and this foolishness needs to stop. Im a Christian and I think this is absurd! When we start refusing to honour others in a society because of their believes we are one step away from the brand of fascism that ran rampant all over Europe in the first half of the 20th Century. We all know what the result of that was. I hope this doctor is suspended and bared from practicing medicine in the public arena if shes going to impose her believes on others. Id say if she had an ounce of actual integrity as a Christian, shed do what Jesus did and inspire others to change their behaviour by setting a loving and graceful example. I think she needs to examine her faith in addition to re-reading her Hippocratic oath she took as a physician.
