I think it is better for us if we have to accept that desire is endless, that someone else is living our life for us, that in the end(if not before) subjectivity is impossible. Utopianism and the ego ideal are pressed in on us from all sides- from television, films, popular music, news papers,advertising. A hopelessly exaggerated idea of personal happiness and our duty to claim it -for me, now- has been set up as the obligatory norm for contemporary society. If persued, this can only lead to despaire.
