I think most of us are focused on the upcoming election but there has been another issue haunting the bylines and sidebars of the news that concerns the appearance of a falling out between D.C. and Israel -- which has been spun by the religious far right and the Likud lovers to be an indication the Obama Administration is selling out Israel, which (they predict) will have dire consequences (ie a nuclear Iran). The truth is (1) Bibi is a thug, (2) the American religious right has a dangerous religious belief driven agenda and of course already hate Obama, and (3) the Obama Administration certainly must want to get rid of Bibi who is clearly no friend of ours and, quite frankly, no asset to Israel either but the question that bugs me is this: who took the first shot and why? If the article by Jeffrey Goldberg earlier in the week is true, then we are left wondering why someone in the Obama Administration called Bibi chicken shit -- certainly a leak meant to incite. The right came back, of course, most notably today through Alan Dershowitz, and slammed Obama. Ive been trying to get my mind around what is at play here... what is the real end game... and so close to the midterms. Its a distraction I cannot imagine that Obama would want right now... or is it really not such a distraction? Ive only seen a few posts about it over the last few days. Are any of my well informed Jewish friends or historians of the Middle East following this? Id welcome your ideas. (PS: NO TROLLS PLEASE. I AM NOT OPENING THIS UP AS A CRITIQUE OF ISRAELS POLICIES, OK SO DONT EVEN GO THERE... this is about something else and lets stick to that, OK?)
