I think most people know by now that processed sugars are bad for you. So is excess sodium (salt). Thats why it is important to read your food labels! Dont be so quick to rush for the fat free items - fat is not your enemy, your body needs a certain amount of fat in order to burn fat. But look for the healthy fats - mono- and polyunsaturated in the main, but even saturated fat is okay in small amounts (like that found in lean red meats). What you want to avoid is trans fats, which are present in abundance in many processed foods. Also, because fat adds flavour, many manufacturers add extra sugar, sodium and other artificial additives to boost the flavour of the fat free or low-fat products. Not every that has sugar tastes sweet, and not everything that has sodium tastes salty. Pay more attention to what you are putting into your body!
