I think that I would take statistics with a grain of salt. in this situation it is best to stay with the laws of physics, the plane came from somewhere, and went somewhere? and it has to obey the laws of aviation to get there. Ok I will try again to figure out what happened to this flight. here it tis, we know that there are now 7 hours of flight, so using a simulator lets trace that flight if we fly from Koala Lumpur at a heading of 021 degrees, at 35,000 feet, and 484 knots. at the 49 minute flight mark the latitude is N7* 35.22 and longitude of E 103* 36.17 a leg of 274 nautical miles out from lumpur airport. next we change course to a heading of 270* toward Colombo, Sri Lanka at 3hrs 45 minutes into the flight or 225 minutes the plane would be over Colombo Airport at lat N 007* 8.40 and lon E 079* 55.66 for a total distance of 1694 nautical miles, now from here the plane can either land, go south into the Indian Ocean and run out of fuel, or go North. now the U.S. Navy went South so lets go North. if we change the plane heading to 351* , altitude 35,000 feet, and a speed of 484 knots. if we fly for 442 minutes out from lumpur or 7 hours and 8 minutes we end up in Islamabad, Pakistan at lat N 033* 37.03 lon E 073* 6.36 and 3347 nautical miles out from Lumpur airport. so if we want to know where to search for this plane I would try the Islamabad airport, in Pakistan since it is the only one close enough to land such a big plane
