I think two of the best (and easily decided) things Justin and I - TopicsExpress

I think two of the best (and easily decided) things Justin and I agree to incorporate into Damiens life is music and books. When I say music I dont mean Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, etc. crap. I mean good music. Blind Melon, Three Non-Blondes, Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys, Nirvana, Pantera...then when their a little older incorporate things such as Wu-Tang Clan ;) Part of the reason is because Justin and I both feel like the quality and work put into older music is higher. Partly because music confuses kids....and thats wonderful. We know our son will be curious. Ill never forget being 7 years old listening to Sum 41 yell that they never wanted to be a victim of conformity. I found myself singing along, then realized I didnt know what conformity was. So I asked my dad. It broadened my mind and thats what I want. The second part is books. I am very adamant that I dont want our child to be that kid in the doctors office playing with a tablet, even to read books from. I want our child to love books the way I did. I want him to appreciate the smell of fresh untouched pages, the pain of turning a page and a corner ripping, the agony of your bookmark falling out...I want him to know the glory of escaping to a new place. Justin and I have an already growing book collection and fully intend on reading to Damien every night. Growing up my father read me a lot of Dr. Seuss books...but he also read to me Stephen King books. We fully intend to do the same with Damien. Being that young, I had no clue what 80% of the words that were being read to me meant...but it made me curious. Words were magical. They sounded like poetry. The way every word is special and has its own meaning fascinated me. Justin and I are both very creative people. We love music, art, and writing. These are passions that we cant wait to give our child.
