I think we have found the most important factor for success, says Joachim de Posada. The most important success factor --> self-discipline or delay of gratification Stanford professor puts 4 year olds in a room with a marshmallow and tells them theyll get a second if they can wait until he returns. He leaves them alone for fifteen minutes, though I dont recall if he tells them how long hed be gone. (Do four year olds have a sense of time anyway?) 2/3 dont make it, lasting seconds to some nearly the whole time. Follow up study 14-15 years later, the 1/3 kids were doing well. Good grades, good relationships, happy. A few of the 2/3 were remotely as successful, but many dropped out, got bad grades etc. TED talk about this famous marshmallow test ... https://youtube/watch?v=M0yhHKWUa0g ... which includes video of kids of when Joachim took the test to Colombia. I have been hearing a lot about the marshmallow test lately, since it almost seems to have been rediscovered, and so this video was fun.
