I thought I knew Argentina - its people, history, culture - well. - TopicsExpress

I thought I knew Argentina - its people, history, culture - well. But having read this tremendous story, I realise there is a whole chapter in its recent history, the depth and impact of which I never came close to appreciating. I also thought the countrys relationship with football was a simpler one. I encourage anyone with an interest in the country, or in history, sociology, politics, or just drama, to read this. If a guard saw him cry, he might go out on the next death flight. Theyd strip him of his clothes, give him an injection of sodium pentothal to keep him woozy and pliable, fly him up in a loud airplane over the waters where River Plate meets the Atlantic Ocean. Alive and confused, he would be pushed out of an open door into the infinite blackness, the howling engines and the howling wind. The water would break his bones, and the fish would eat his flesh. espn.go/espn/feature/story/_/id/11036214/while-world-watched-world-cup-brings-back-memories-argentina-dirty-war
