I thought I posted about our trip to Canada. I cant find it. We drove up to Vancouver for Felixs 36th birthday. Hes getting older. Glad Im not. :) We had planned to call him when we got into town but we were behind schedule. Wed said, Were going to call you on your birthday. We just didnt tell him where from. We ended up calling from Bellingham, saying we were on our way. He was ecstatic. To put this into perspective, when we first came into contact with Felix, he was coming up on 21 years old and living in Kiev in a hostel where I wouldnt house my worst enemy, mainly because of the bathrooms. We talked most of the afternoon and then took him out to one of those Japanese restaurants with the flaming habachi and the chef doing tricks with the pepper mill, knife, socki-and-onion volcano, etc. He loved it! For those who dont know the back story, This began in 1999 as an email pen pal friendship. He wanted to work on his written English skills. We went to Kiev in 2000. He was attending a university there. Felix came to Canada in 2006. He is now a Canadian citizen and the equivalent of a CPA working at Price-Waterhouse, which is an international corporate financial services firm. This is a long, long way from the underweight kid in Kiev without adequate winter clothing. Felix is originally from Ghana. Yes, weve been there too.
