I thought most of the English-speaking world outside of the U.S. - TopicsExpress

I thought most of the English-speaking world outside of the U.S. pronounced the letter H as “hhh-aitch”, the same way I always have, but it turns out it’s really only pronounced like that in Ireland, in “Hiberno-English”, according to Wikipedia. Bejaysus, I never hhh-eard that before. Whenever I have to spell out my name over the phone in the U.S., I make an effort to say “aitch” for H, but sometimes that’s still not clear enough. Once, after spelling P-H-E-L-A-N over the phone, my name turned up later on a printed document as PAGLAN.
