I thought something the other day that I didnt expect Id ever think. THANK GOODNESS IM FAT!!! Day before yesterday it was raining off and on, and I decided to take a walk. Nothing smells better than being eight blocks from the Puget Sound and rain after a long dry spell. I put on my headphones and was trucking along. For those of you that dont know, I use a walker because of my spinal problems. I cant walk very far at all without it, due to pain, but with it, I can truck along at a good clip and walk upward to four miles on a good day. On a regular day, I do my mile walk to the store. There are nice ramps on the sidewalks in Ballard for people using mobility devices and I was in the decline of the ramp looking to make sure there was no traffic, thus not looking down. My foot hit a small, wet manhole cover and next thing I know my feet are higher than my head and I realize Im about to hit the pavement and its going to hurt. I impacted the sidewalk so hard, my walker went flying away ten feet in one direction and my sunglasses and headphones went flying the other way. I hit on my back and left side and laid there for about 30 seconds, somewhat stunned, to people gawking from their cars and driving on by. I might have even smiled, I did find it a little amusing. Then I wondered what the damage was, because I really didnt hurt as badly as I expected. I wasnt sure if I could get off the ground from the position I was in and managed to sit up. I sat there for a good minute or two watching yet more cars driving by. A nice couple probably in their 70s and another nice young man finally stopped and helped me, gathering up my scattered walker, glasses and headset and were very concerned that I was okay. As it turned out, I finished my walk and the next day there wasnt even much of a bruise and no soreness. Yay FAT!! Had I been a skinny-minny I had no doubt something would have been injured if not a broken bone somewhere. My beefy butt and body saved me! Guess Ill take another walk. Life is good, even with being humiliated sitting in the middle of a wet side walk..
