I thought the movie Rudy was an inspirational film. Not so much - TopicsExpress

I thought the movie Rudy was an inspirational film. Not so much because it had a Cinderella type Hollywood ending but because it shows the value of persevering. Rudy, who is “five foot nothing” and who has little talent as a football player, decides to follow his dream to play with the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Because of his enthusiasm, he makes the practice team. Now his hard work pays off not so much for himself but for the whole team (at least until the last game of his college career). The reason for this is that he makes the team better because they are forced to practice harder than they normally would. This alone makes him a success at football and has more honor attached to it than if he was the star Quarterback who threw for 40 touchdowns (though this is very good too) for it’s easier to persevere as a first string star quarterback than a third string bench warmer. Furthermore, despite being told that he was not academically talented enough to go to college, he transcends his limitations and (after going to a community college for two years) finally gets into Notre Dame. As a result of his academic success (he earns a Bachelor’s Degree), he inspires his younger brothers to attend college and also earn degrees. https://youtube/watch?v=pBq_lpX9LTw
