I thought we could do with a laugh. I wrote this poem about a cat who was plain grumpy and lived with an elderly lady who thought he was wonderful. I hope you enjoy it x Grandma’s Grumpy Feline My Granny had a tabby cat and his name was Elmer Fink. He always had a funny look, his eyes would often blink. Granny thought him handsome but she was nearly blind. She wouldn’t hear a nasty word or see her boy maligned. On days we went to visit her Elmer would be there. We’d sit and have our tea and cakes and he would sit and stare. The cake we ate was furry but Granny cut some more. Elmer looked delighted as he washed his grubby paw. Granny said he liked a stroke but Elmer glared and twitched. We questioned if he’d brainwashed her and now she was bewitched. We tried to tickle Elmer’s chin, he flicked his tail and scowled. As soon as any hand went near Old Elmer sat and growled. Granny claimed we’d frightened him, declaring he was shy. Elmer wanted rid of us, and that’s the reason why! Eventually we took our leave and kissed our Gran goodbye. I swear I saw old Elmer grin and wink his amber eye! Teresa Harrison-Best
