I, too, thought this was a weird joke about parenting. Its not. What it is, is malarkey. 1) You dont train a newborn baby to not be hungry. You can damage a babys organs by denying him the nutrition his body needs to make new cells and protect against illness. 2) Crazy thing about babies: they dont eat, they dont grow! 3) Babies dont come with manuals, and they certainly arent made with timers that we can conveniently program to our preferences. 4) There is no way to over-feed a breastfed baby. And...5) methods like this have been linked to failure-to-thrive and SIDS. Whats disturbing is that this method is not in any way sound, but the endorsement of its creators lends it to a favorable following, simply because of their title. My gosh. We need to be honest with new parents, emphasizing that sleepless nights are a normal - albeit, not eternal - occurrence when caring for an infant. There are multiple ways to help a mom get more sleep at night, ways shown to decrease the risk of SIDS and to deepen bonding. We are putting parents emotional and physical health at risk by giving them the impetus to shortcut their babies fundamental needs. Hashtag, end of my rant.
