I took a cue from Nancy Williams and stepped outside to take in my surroundings while taking my break. As soon as I exited the building the cool crisp air infiltrated my nostrils. The faint sweet smell of wood and burning pine straw teased my sense of smell as I look across the field. A group of crows are cawing amongst themselves while hunting a mid day snack. A sentinel crow perched high up on a utility line on constant watch for any impending danger to the group on the ground feeding. In the far distance I see a column of smoke drifting ever so lazily towards the heavens. The clouds in the sky look like a wintery protective blanket blocking the harsh sunlight from the earth. As I turn to resume my daily grind, I spot a red hawk sitting high in the tree line with a wary eye hunting its next meal. A field mouse or an insect perhaps fueling its musclier feather wrapped body with needed protein.
