I took a walk around my neighborhood and I decided to photograph - TopicsExpress

I took a walk around my neighborhood and I decided to photograph some of the homes to give those of you unfamilier with New Orleans a little glimpse of the city. I live in the Treme, the second oldest neighborhood in the city. We are situated just across from the north end of the French Quarter. We are 6 blocks wide and 6 blocks deep. Treme is literally the birthplace of jazz. It was formerly the Treme Plantation until it was subdivided. Treme was originally settled by a mixture of musicians, artist, black and white, rich and poor. There are grand homes and smaller ones built in a mixture of styles and ages. Many of the wealthy Planters bought homes there and settled their Quadroon mistresses in them. It was a system called placage. This was a system in which wealthy white men contracted with the aunts and mothers of beautiful quadroon girls. They agreed to buy them a home, keep them in a luxurious lifestyle and educate the children. Anne Rice wrote a novel about i called The Feast Of All Saints. It won a hsitorical accuracy award and was made into mini series. You can watch it on Youtube.
