I took another trip in the camper van this weekend and headed over - TopicsExpress

I took another trip in the camper van this weekend and headed over to the coast of west Devon to a place called Hartland Quay. I only had a couple of days and also was looking after a friends dog for the weekend so I wasnt able to do as much photography as I wanted but the tides were favourable even if the weather was a bit bland. On the first afternoon I was out walking the cliffs and saw some showers moving in from the west so quickly headed back to the van and got myself in amongst the spiky fractured rocks you get down there. Pulling a composition out of the chaos took almost an hour, by which time I was at the last of the rocks before the crashing waves began. By the time the distant shower had come into sight I was almost getting washed off the rock I was standing on so decided to head back with my wellies full of seawater :) I quite like the subtle tones of the colour image here, though the mono gives a fine feeling of power as well. What do you think? Technicals: Apart from the danger and difficulty of getting a composition, the hardest thing to achieve was the right balance of waves and flowing water to really give a feeling for the dynamic power of the ocean. This image had a shutter speed of just over half a second to get the effect I was after using a 3 stop ND filter and polariser.
