I took the opportunity to drive around the city today; I normally do it at least once a week usually more. I wanted to share with all of you the signs of progress that are showing in the city. My staff and I are very proud of what is going on, through diligence and hard work we are moving this city forward at a pace that has not been seen for many, many years. I am proud, as all of you should be, of the efforts of all the people that make this city work. The Directors, Police Chief and Fire Chief are, unequivocally, the best this city has ever seen. The last 2 additions that were made, Jenny Esarey, Finance Director and Sue Truby, Economic Development Director, were the final pieces of the puzzle that brought it all together. And of course, along with the lead staff comes the employees that are out there on the frontlines every day. Our Police, Fire, Service, Parks, Finance, Building, Planning and Zoning employees are second to none. Their dedication, hard-work and espirit-de-corps are what help to move this city forward. What you are seeing around the city is just the tip of the iceberg. The best for this city is on the horizon. We have spent the last 2 ½ years building a foundation for the great things yet to come. There’s an old saying, “You don’t build a house starting on the second floor”, and we are building a foundation on which we can continue to build. We have concentrated on our roads, our Water System, our storm water management, and our Planning and Zoning to position our city to properly manage the growth which is to come. We’ve noticed a definite upsurge in community pride. We want to keep that momentum going. I like when I see and hear the television commercials, Great Lakes Hyundai, “Come to Streetsboro, in the middle of everywhere and the newest from Kia of Streetsboro, “Keeping It Awesome in Streetsboro. These are but just a couple signs of how the perception of our city is becoming much better. When you look at the pictures that accompany this post, all of the projects shown have begun this year. Look at the jobs that have been created or will be when the projects are completed. Our biggest project this year, the Philip Parkway extension, will break ground sometime in October or November; this will open up a large amount of land for development. Also, after many, many years of promises city water will be a reality in Sunny Slopes, with Phase 1 starting very soon and Phase 2 to begin in the spring of next year. There are many things for all of our citizens to be excited about. We’ll have a brand new High School, virtually a brand new Middle School, Campus Elementary will have an all new look, these will be great sources of community pride. We’ve invested money in our parks to improve them, the latest maintenance project, filling in approximately 3 ½ acres of land, added much more to the usability and what we can offer to our citizens. The list goes on and on! Things have gotten better and they will continue to get better. It is all for you, the citizens of the great City of Streetsboro!
