I totally agree with this article! We have minimal leisure time due to the 40+hour work week structure. All our free-time is tied up in errands and personal responsibilities. We have little to no time for self reflection and engaging in activities that would fulfill us.. instead we are unsatisfied so we spend money on unnecessary things. Western economies, particularly that of the United States, have been built in a very calculated manner on gratification, addiction, and unnecessary spending. We spend to cheer ourselves up, to reward ourselves, to celebrate, to fix problems, to elevate our status, and to alleviate boredom.
