I tried the mushroom bacon and wow, it is really close to tasting like bacon! I used cherry wood to smoke it since that is what I had. (used for my cob oven). I lit the end by hand torch for about 1 minute (outside) and put it in a pot that had a coat hanger bent to hold a steamer tray (out of my pressure cooker), and put a lid on it. Pretty good stuff! I used Cremini mushrooms only cause I didnt want to drive across town to Coos Head and get Shiitake, and sure not going to pay the price in the grocery stores over here. And I did not add the sugar, garlic and paprika... the salt and pepper was enough for me. And I did try them without the smoke, and smoke is tastier.
