I urge all of you to join the Facebook group Assyrian Hakkari and Bohtan which documents in a series of extraordinary photographs some of the villages in which Assyrians lived before the Turkish genocide. This group does an invaluable service to all the Assyrians for whom Atra is an abstract concept and presents a vivid chronicle to anyone who is curious about who we are and where we came from. Detailed descriptions accompany the images of enchanting wild splendour and our austere, lithic architecture, rooting them in the familial, communal, and national history that was violated by the pillaging, expulsions and massacres of the early 20th century.
