I used to require that every employee in my business read Marshall - TopicsExpress

I used to require that every employee in my business read Marshall Rosenbergs book Nonviolent Communication (NVC). We would even close the business so that all the employees could attend an NVC training. I had to stop all of that because it had the opposite effect on my business that I intended. People learned to couch aggression in NVC terms. I still LOVE NVC and I occasionally reread the book to remind myself of the dynamics, but I now see NVC as a tool for people who have done a lot of maturing and not as a road to get there. (And I readily admit that even though I just turned 50, I still have maturing to do.) In any case, it is good to see that someone has put into words in this article the thoughts that have been stirring in my mind since my NVC experiment backfired. In summary, I think we need to learn to be kind and when to STFU (which is probably most of the time).
