I used to think that I needed discipline. In my immaturity as a young man I thought discipline meant punishment for wrongs done. When I read Your rod and Your staff comfort me, I beleived... You will beat me till I stop doing the bad things I hate. Like I said immaturity. Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Now... Now I know something that I can only learn through time and patience in a relationship while getting to know someone. Shepherds care for their sheep/followers. Weve all seen windchimes before, and some are made our of wood. While they clinck adn clanck, we recognize the familiar sound adn it feels like home to some of us. To some of us it strikes a nerve in the inner ear and drives us bonkers, but the point is that we recognize it. It is the same one we have heard a million times. This is how the shepherds crook, the staff comforts his followers/sheep. We hear his voice. We recognize the tone of his staff striking the rocks, as though it were a wind chime, while He walks,a dn often a shepherd has a bell or some metalic jingling thing at the top of his staff. If the shepherd moves we notice, and we follow. Until we recognize his tone of movement we have to pay attention, but soon it becomes natural. We hear His sound and we go where He goes because its safe there. Life is long where it is safe! Pastor Abe
