I visited Woodside today, in honor of St. Patricks Day. I was allowed into the Catholic War Veterans Post, as I was a St. Sebastians classmate of Frank Ovadeck, and also a co-worker of his, at the State Insurance Fund. We are both retired. I met Bernie McNellis sons, Jim & Brian. A guy named Richard (St. Sebastians, Class of 1959) showed me a picture of Frank and his wife. I expressed regret over not being at St. Sebastians, when Frank got married. It was his first, as it will be for me, if I ever get married! I enjoyed a corn beef sandwich. While on the buffet line, I told how I have frequent discussions with Irishmen as to who the best women are. They say the Italian girls; I say the Irish girls! A lady who overheard this said I was likely making this up; I assured her that I wasnt! I then stopped off at Donovans, and tried out that hamburger of theirs, which I have heard so much about. It truly was GREAT!! I then went to Shelleys, where I had hoped to see classmate Robert Harkinish. I missed him, but he called me when I was back on Long Island. He met the widow of Kevin Smite; I forgot her Gaelic name. Anyway, Rob said that her brother, John remembered me, when we were kids. He didnt know her maiden name/Johns last name. Can anybody help me with this? I thought he might have been John Snowman; Rob said he wasnt. Could he have been John Pawes? I used to see Kevin on the bus; he lived in my neighborhood, in Sunnyside. I think he graduated a year after my class-1963. I last stopped in the pizzeria, a few doors down from Shelleys. Frank, one of the owners, remembered me, from previous visits. Overall, except for missing Rob, it was great to be back in Woodside, on St. Patricks Day!
