I visited a Shan orphanage in Lashio on 6th June, the orphanage is on the outskirt of the city with about 80 children. I have lugged along from Singapore almost 40kg of soft toys and stationery. I purchased from Lashio, three hundred kilos of rice, milk, tins of biscuits, sweets, snacks, other food stuffs and some daily necessities till it filled up our vehicle until it had hardly any comfortable space for us to sit. The principal of the orphanage was informed of my visit and we were warmly greeted by some of the children on our arrival as some of the bigger children are still in school. The English speaking principal shows me around and spokes about their history and future plans for the children in the orphanage. All the children seems very cheerful, laughing and playing like normal healthy kids. It was a rather short visit as I have to be at the next town in a couple of hours so I asked the teacher distributed the toys and snacks to the kids. all the children there line up and sang a song and thank me for visiting them. This trip was made possible because of the funds donated by Cecil Cheong Simon Cheong, Joanna Sim, Susan Lee Leh Kheng, Celine Leong, Ida Lee, Khongyew Chiah, Kelly Bamji Lee and special thanks to Cecilia Che, and Popo Woo for donating all the soft toys and stationary as well as all our well wishers.
