INTERNATIONAL CALL UPS: Vicente del Bosque has called upon seven FC Barcelona players for the clutch World Cup qualifier in Helsinki, Finland (September 6) and then the friendly in Geneva, Switzerland (September 10) against Chile. The seven are: Víctor Valdés, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta, Cesc Fàbregas and Pedro Rodríguez. One level down from the senior squad, Sergi Roberto, Sergio Gómez and Gerard Deulofeu are called up to the under 21 squad for European qualifiaction games against Austria (September 5) and Albania (September 9). Unfortunately but unavoidably Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano do the long trip to South America to join the Argentinian team in World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay (September 10). Mascherano is suspend so cannot even participate but still makes the journey. Alexis Sánchez will play for Chile against Venezuela (September 6) and then fly back to Europe for the friendly against Spain. The Brazilian duo Daniel Alves and Neymar will be racking up the most frequent flier miles. They go to Brasília, Brazil for a friendly against Australia (September 7) before jetting north to Boston, United States to face Portugal (September 10). Finally Alex Song goes home for a make-or- break match against Libya (September 8). Cameroon must at minimum draw in order to make the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) 2014 World Cup playoffs.
