I wanna say Im not a hippie. Im the farthest from. Im pro GMO, I think recycling cardboard and paper hurts the environment. That being said, what I saw on Saturday at that wedding blew my mind. We were out of cell range, by the time noon rolled around, all electronic devices were out of power. I usually see kids at weddings eating or watching a movie. Sometimes, theres a dedicated babysitter to make sure they all behave themselves. Every now and then, we have an activities co-ordinator. These kids had none of that. Just a huge, huge backyard. No playground, nothing. In the middle of all these sticks and 1960s ford trucks, they started planting trees. Creating a shelter, complete with tarp for when it rains and (fake solar) candles. Organizing games with rocks and makeshift flags. Everyone was included, kids from 5 years old to 12. One of the things that changed me. Kids, when removed from their TV and computers, are forced to use their imagination. To create, and accomplish. In the end, to be proud of the works of their hands. How cool.
