Today Chris and Karen from Muskogee traveled to Maysville for a play day. It was a great time for us all, lots of visiting, sharing, and discussing if we wanted to do just one thing or touch base on a few different things. Touching base on more than one project was the happy decision. Chris brought some of her fabulous pendants, bugs and butterflies. I got a few pictures of some of them. The beautiful blue heart with gorgeous thread-work is my favorite, the best Ive ever seen, bar none. Also they got to visit Joe in the Mold Room where they watched how mats were hand cast. Joe showed them how he shoots rubber onto the patterns and lets gravity assist in the spreading of the liquid. Next they watched the rubber being de-aired in the vacuum chamber nicknamed The Beast. It looks like the rubber is boiling hard and fast. Its not really boiling, it just looks like it because the vacuum pulls all of the air out of the rubber. After that, we girls spent a bit of time de-molding the cured molds and set the emptie gang molds up to be molded again. Joe gave the pump gun to Chris so she could fill up some molds. Then it was Karens turn. It was a lot of fun for us all. Sadly, no photos of the playtime in the factory or the sharing time in the studio. I must learn to remember to take pictures!! Any way, enjoy Chris lovely work.
