I want to be a Winner We have a friend who wins things all the time. Big ticket things with the latest being a five day, five star trip to Hawaii for two. The secret to his success he says is simple - he enters stuff all the time. So the old saying of, you have got to be in to win is true. If you were to ask me I would say I never win anything which isn’t entirely factual. I have in my forty-one years won three things worth remembering. The first being the ASB Story writing competition when I was at primary school. I know I harp on about this but there are not too many accolades coming my way re my writing at the moment so I am clinging on to my eight year old glory. The second was won through a magazine competition and involved no talent on my behalf. The prize being a whizz-bang toy you throw balls at to get it to light up, a bit like those awful clown things at fairs. It lasted five minutes before the boys broke it - thank god. As for the third well this one was rather exciting. I won a $1,000.00 flight voucher from Jet Star thanks to a little story I wrote about the boys trying to find Gold in the sand over on the Gold Coast. Okay so it was never going to take out the Pulitzer prize but hey $1,000.00 bucks is a $1,000.00 bucks. This week I am feeling lucky thanks to a freak find of $20.00 on Friday. It was just lying in the gutter so like the old saying goes finders, keepers and all that. Anyway you know what I am like when I get a bee in my bonnet so yesterday I went online and found a New Zealand competition site. I spent an hour picking my way through the travel, health and beauty and tech sections choosing which items I would like to have show up on the door step. To date for my efforts I have received an e-mail invitation to have my stars read by a psychic. I am not giving up hope though just like the book deal - the I-Pad, the DVD’s and the Skin Care set will all be mine because just like another old saying goes, I can feel it in my water. Aaggh! That one always makes me cringe. michellevernal
