I want to bring something to your attention that you can DO something about. Who remembers seeing millions of Monarch butterflies as they migrated south? Their numbers were decimated by 75% during a freak freeze in 1991. And now, thanks to Roundup and the use of certain Nematodes, as well as a shortage of milkweed plants, their numbers are depleting again. We can all do something to bring this portion of beauty back to nature. I am urging everyone who can, to plant Milkweeds on their property, especially the pretty Mexican Milkweed (their favorite). And remember to NOT spray any insecticides on the plants (although you will need ladybugs for any aphids). Lets do what we can to bring the colorful beauty back to our skies so later generations can still enjoy the Monarchs, or... We could potentially extinct the species in our lifetime if we do nothing. Here is one link that is dedicated to rebuilding the Monarch colonies. They will provide you with free seeds to plant, which somehow, the Monarchs will find. After planting mine last year, I have now seen my first Monarch in this area, since the past 30 years. Pretty cool.
