I want to condemn in strong terms this proud, mocking and insensitive statement credited to President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda where he said he has never called the United Nations to guard his security. He stated that he, Yoweri Museveni cannot say that he has failed to protect his people and then call on the UN for help, that he would rather hang himself! He claimed to have prioritised national security by developing a strong Army, otherwise his country, Uganda would be like DRC, South Sudan, Somalia or Nigeria where militias have disappeared with school children. He enthused that It would be a vote of no confidence in his country and citizens if he cannot guarantee their security. He asked What kind of persons they would be. Whilst I must admit that he is right about the alarming rate of insecurity in Nigeria owing to the lingering insurgency in the North Eastern part and the near-passive reaction of our national leadership in combating this reprehensible terrorism, I reject this unacceptable censure and damning derision of the giant of Africa, Nigeria. It is the splattering rain that mixed the dove with the hen: thus, It is our security challenge coupled with our silent, seemingly drab and unornate National supremo that led us into national ridicule. Museveni, we would recall accepted US assistance to contain the fugitive African warlord and wicked rebel of Northern Uganda, Joseph Kony of the Lords Resistance Army, LRA. Rather than hang himself, he also did an upturn on homophobia so as to continue receiving US aid. He is merely posturing and having a good laugh over a continental misfortune. This Sinister African Leader is either a hypocrite or a coward. If he is so concerned, he should either offer military help or simply keep quiet. He, like many African nations making a mockery of our hapless country have forgotten so soon how we the true African giants stood by them in their days of woe, trouble and armed hostility. Our Government could have mocked them or make a similar insensitive statement, instead, we sent our valiant soldiers who risked their lives for a cause they no nothing about. We were the backbone of ECOMOG. We fought apartheid in South Africa. We restored democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We sent troops to Mali. Nigeria deserves more than an irresponsible comment from its African siblings. We refuse to be a hub of debris deserving of being made a vomitorium. We shall rise again. I believe. I really believe.
