I want to get into climbing... Im not sure what the hell my fascination with the earth is... climbing, caving, diving, flying... ... flying (believe it or not I know how to pilot (land) a Boeing 747...crap... i forgot the last designation... but would know it if i heard it... ooh... 747-300, 400 and 700 Worked for Boeing as a software proofer (ironicly i had forgotten about working there cognitively even though my mind would refer to events and memories of people... but not from periods i was there.) One of the bennis I was allowed to test the 747s series flight simulators. One session was handling the plane in an end of the world scenario *coughdidntdowell*, and another was landing from autopilot. I disengaged autopilot and began my descent with bank. As the runway ILs began to center, I mistook an outline of a distant building as the waypoint indicator, but for that specific trajectory, I was spot on. Once the teacher commented about my heading, I quickly realized my mistake and to the instructors surprize handled the simulator Like youve been flying a few years. I over dropped the speed to cause the plane to almost stall (the instructor didnt like my methodology, but the practice was flawless) then the plane drops very quickly, and also... when piloting a plane that large with fly by wire, you jerk or turn the plane rapidly... and nothing will happen at first. Or second. Or third. Then all the sudden itll lurch hard... but the plane is so massive... its kinda like driving a boat in water... you have to predict coasting, gliding, and trajectory... and account for thr massive size. Once I felt the glide path (intuitively) merging into the original path I over boosted for a moment to return momentum to the plane, then set the stick (again intuitively - which generally means to trust ones gut/self) to what I intuited the original speed (possibly by noting its original position - not really sure) would return to be. It turned out I was again spot on. Later I learned I was actually being evaluated for additional training... but I moved away shortly after. During the evaluation, my trajectory, descent, altitude, glide path, and fuel burn were all recorded and printed out. That print out exists someplace in this basement. I was pulled asside and had the evaluation gone over. The first note was about my shallow descent. I quickly corrected him, and explained the graphic image on the screen initially confused me and i believed that to be the Ils marker. i continued with the comment made during the test and explained i quickly understood my mistake and corrected the trajectory here... *pointing where an almost vertical line connected the original ghost trail. Thats about the time he asked me how long I had been flying? I explained only on video games... and his jaw dropped to learn I had no real world/simulator experience, and continued with experienced pilots have difficulty with this even after years on the books... and i just... intuited how the plane should feel... very much like how I shoot a bow. just comes to me. Looking at the print out, the plane dropped very quickly then perfectly lined up with the original (not the new path had i continued from my oops) flight path then maintained glide within 2%error... I moved and that was that... wonder how things would have been had i perused my other dream of being a test pilot... thats one dream ill have to release unless i really get into submersible piloting... as the other likely takes more time to acomplish at my age.
