I want to make something ABUNDANTLY clear: Todays teacher rally was NOT about raises for teachers. Instead, it was about raises for STUDENTS. Our students are 49th in the nation in per-student expenditures, and that is NOT ok! Would I like more pay? You bet! What I would like even more is for us to have the resources necessary, the smaller classes that are conducive to, and the financial backing to support a strong education for EVERY student! So, if someone makes that out to be the point of todays rally, please ASK them how we are supposed to pull off the mandated miracles in a state who has CUT education funding by $200 MILLION since 2008, but who has grown by 40,000 students in the same time? With 1,500 FEWER educators than we had in 2008! A raise? Yes! That sounds great! Please RAISE our per student expenditure and general education funding!
