I want to point out my experiences here. Im really saddened by the amount of people out there-otherwise good, hardworking and kind people who have been brainwashed by this nonsense. As a sufferer of an invisible illness and someone with a background in SCIENCE, FACT and PSYCHOLOGY, I never let myself get carried away with kookiness or goofiness. There are many frauds out there and many people who unfortunately become brainwashed into this self help stuff. I want to emphasize how deeply hurtful and out of line it is for ANYBODY EVER NO MATTER WHAT the circumstance or WHERE that person is coming from to suggest to people with an incurable illnesses that they have somehow brought those illnesses upon themselves as some sort of a manifestation of bad living, bad energy or overall neglect. I have heard SO many times from SO many people-none of them of course who have actually ever lived with a painful and/or incurable condition I might add, who like to tell me and others that if we only think positively, let go of the pain, take some magic supplement that science mysteriously cant prove even works, that well be cured and that damn it man, cant we see how our illnesses are brought on solely by negative thoughts and blah blah etc etc. I find it hurtful and rather ignorant for anyone to believe that an intelligent, successful and well adjusted person (like me for instance) is just missing that one key fake supplement or that one positive thought which would cure them of that pesky ole cancer. I for one take excellent care of myself. I take my medicine (science, folks, Google it), I take my supplements (actual vitamins, not some sales based, pyramid scheme sugar pill), I do reiki, I have acupuncture, I have reflexology, I get massages, I eat right, I drink lots of water, I meditate, I have an extensive yoga practice, I hike, etc etc and so on and so on. I find it deeply hurtful and offensive when it is suggested to me that I am somehow manifesting legions all over my internal organs because bad juju, bad mojo, bad energy and boogity boogity. That is impossibly, horribly and ridiculously offensive as well as deeply hurtful, and in light of that fact, Id like to take this opportunity to share some similar (to mine) stories on a website that I found while doing research on this very phenomenon. Now, Im not suggesting that everything that Tony Robbins, Zig Ziglar, Abraham-Hicks or whoever have no grains of truth in their writing, but what I am suggesting is that one grain of sand (or truth) does not a beach make and that anyone can become a self-proclaimed guru, that anyone can write a book and that anyone can speak from the tops of their heads and call what theyre saying fact without the burden of having to back any of it up. I know that there are lots of good people out there who are looking for some uplifting, personal responsibility-based theory of life, but Id like to invite and encourage you all to develop your own rather than adopting that of someone else. We are all equal on this journey. None are above. Following someone that you think has more information than you do (based on what?) is hazardous to your own freedom at best. Use your logic, use your intuition. Develop your own philosophy. There are no gurus. Theres only you. And Id really like to encourage you to make sure that youre respecting other people while you strive to follow your own path and fully participate in your own journey. If you cant believe that random occurrences happen in life, at least try to be open to the possibility that every single solitary thing that happens in this world isnt necessarily a matter of choice. Do you get to choose what you look like (while here in this life) to a large extent? No. You dont. Genetics are set in stone. Do you get to choose your parents or siblings (again, while in this life)? No. You most certainly do not. So why would you choose illness? Why would that be any different? Its a physiological and scientific issue. It is a not a manifestation of bad juju. Im not suggesting that there is no power in thought. Im not suggesting that energy healing is useless. What I am suggesting is that its rather unlikely that youre going to cure your cancer solely based on positive thought. Can it hurt? No. It might even help. But telling someone that their disease is a manifestation of bad juju actually can and will hurt. It may damage your relationship with the person in question and it could end up hurting that person quite a bit. Its not a helpful or a kind thing to say to someone thats suffering from an illness. Its downright hurtful whether you mean it to be or not. Now, Im not calling anyone in specific out here. Im simply helping to educate any of you who are interested. If youre not, then great, but since youre not interested in fact, you can imagine how not interested I am in hearing your bad juju theories (common ground). Cmon people, its 2014. Lets try to introduce some facts into the equation. Question everything in life. Dont seek to remake evidence based on the answer you want and dont seek out answers based on your desires. Seek out facts. Seek out truth. Seek out knowledge. Search within yourself. Ask yourself tough questions. Ask yourself WHY youre willing to believe something that is not backed up or supported by any valid science. Nine times out of ten, if youre honest with yourself, youre going to find that the reason youre willing to believe such theories is because like the bible, like other popular myths and allegories, theyre comforting and they relieve you of the burden of having to think for yourself. Dont assume that Im calling you silly or stupid for believing what you believe. If I thought you were, I wouldnt be explaining this to you. Please understand that Ive listened to many people explain such philosophies for many years and Ive done my research and due diligence. This is the inevitable conclusion I have reached. So for gods sake, or for your own, put down the self help books before you hurt yourselves (or others). The Abraham Hicks Skeptic: Experiences
