I want to preface this post by clarifying that this is not intended as a cheap shot at our President, and emphasize that I usually despise discussing politics. A friends post--along with many weeks of my feed being inundated by VERY conservative political propaganda--has inspired me to respond. If you must label me politically, I suppose the most accurate label would have to be American. Will I lie and say that I truly am a proud American most of the time? No, because most of the time I am outraged at the idiocy that is American politics. Collectively, and naively, do we truly believe that our government is by the people, for the people? Do we truly blame the current government for all of our woes? Have some been living under a big rock for the past few decades? Our government is controlled by GREED. We are governed by MONEY. So, logically, if you are discussing government control, socialism, etc. in America, then you realistically are talking about corporate control or big money controlling our lives. This DID NOT happen over the last few years. This has been evolving since the beginning of our country, and has been snowballing ever since. So--are we afraid that our government is going to take away our rights by CONTROLLING us? Too late. BIG MONEY already does...has for years. What I get out of all of the blind, naive, propaganda posts from both sides (if you really are naive to believe that the sides are different) is that we are somewhat afraid. We should be, but not of Obama, Democrats, Republicans...blah...blah...blah. We are looking for those to blame. It makes us feel better because looking in the proverbial mirror means we must put the blame where it truly belongs--on US and those who came before US. Our GREED, and got to have what we want RIGHT NOW and our keeping up with the Joneses mentality has put us right where we are right now. We have ALLOWED all of this to happen. Our government from local on up does not represent us....does not have our best interest at heart. If it did, why are women in NC having our basic rights challenged?....Why are teachers having to fight back? The only way we can change what we have ALLOWED to happen to us, is to scrap our system and totally overhaul it. Will our GREED stop us from doing this? So, I am now stepping down from my soapbox. This is how I feel no matter what label you want to put on it. I would love to put the PROUD back in my AMERICAN label. Peace.
