I want to put some minds at ease regarding the Ebola patient - TopicsExpress

I want to put some minds at ease regarding the Ebola patient diagnosed today in Dallas. Firstly, yes its on American soil, but that DOESNT mean everyone is going to get it. We have the means to contain it: bleach, sterile gloves/gowns/masks, trained workers, adequate number of workers and isolation facilities, and the money to finance the means to continue sterile practices. West Africa doesnt. Secondly, we have the advantage of not being overrun by it such that we can track and isolate patients and ALL their contacts before it gets out of hand. Our culture is different; we have the manpower to track suspected cases contacts while in Africa if people dont want to be found, they have ways and places to avoid being found. Thirdly, it IS NOT airborne; only direct contact (AFTER symptoms begin) spreads the disease, not before. We cant prevent it from getting here but we CAN contain it. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone with questions; for those who dont know, my field is microbiology, specifically virology. Few people in this field have direct experience with this virus; I am not one who has direct experience but I do know the research.
