I want to put the word out that we will have a decent garlic crop this year, barring a flood or stream of locusts of Biblical proportions. I was concerned for a while as it seemed to take a long time, five weeks later than usual, for the garlic to emerge. Now that it has, it looks really healthy. We did have some winter kill, as we had the coldest winter in 20 years, but with little or no snowpack. If I made an educated guess, I would say we most likely lost about 15 percent of the crop to winter kill. That still leaves us with 1,500 healthy plants. It looks great, including the HOT Georgia Fire, so you can anticipate well have fresh, certified organic garlic at the farmers market in August.
