I want to share my story in hope that people understand a little more on why this is so important for us to raise money. This is the first time i have ever gone into detail about my condition publicity but here goes.. . Last year i was rushed to hospital with what doctors thought was a brain tumor, i had MRI scans, Ct scans and a lumbar puncture which is a large needle in the base of your spine to drain brain fluid. After 2 weeks admission i was then transferred to James Cook hospital were i was taken in on the neurological ward. I was diagnosed with Papilledema which is were your optic disks are swollen from pressure on the brain. I was not long after diagnosed with IIH (Idiopathic inter-cranial hypertension). At the time i didnt understand anything what was going on and i was told that this condition is very rare, and that my brain struggles to get rid of fluid which build up and creates too much brain pressure which can be life threatening. Over a space of a few months i had a total of 7 lumbar punctures, the needles in my spine, to drain as much fluid at a time that they possibly could. In January this year i was taken into hospital for brain surgery, were a bolt was fitted through my skull into my brain, monitoring my brain pressures, i was hooked up to laptops and monitoring equipment to get accurate readings. After brain surgery i started to develop sezuires which happened frequently and are still on going, Doctors believe i may have exerianced minor frontal lobe brain damage as a result and have lost around 40% of vision in my right eye, I am still on-going with IIH as unfortunately it has no cure. I have opened up for the first time about illness because i believe for me to try and raise awareness people need to understand how serious this condition is and why money needs to be raised.
