I want to thank everyone who sent light, love, thoughts and prayers to Roger these past many days when he faced the thin line that separates life and death. He was still in ICU last night, but is stable. I am reminded in these moments that my family has a stubborn, tenacious, almost fierce to determination to continue on, no matter what. My brother no longer lives in the reality that brought him to this point in life, and hasnt for a while, but that, in many ways, is okay. The demons of absolutely gruesome, horrific memories of Khe Sanh and paranoia that developed for a variety of reasons including Vietnam no longer seem to plague him. I need to acknowledge and thank his son, Andrew, for being such a responsible and compassionate person at such a young age. Andrew walks the tough road of being a solitary care-giver at way too young of an age... the same age as is my daughter. The bond and communication between them is a beautiful thing to behold.
