Day 10 of Thankfulness: I am thankful for music. I have always - TopicsExpress

Day 10 of Thankfulness: I am thankful for music. I have always adored music. It has always been part of my identity. I used to sing into a bar on my swing set as if it were a microphone (I thought no one could hear me because I was outside, lol). I sang in talent shows and was the lead in my 5th grade musical Christmas play. When I was old enough to stay at home by myself, I used to turn my CD player up and put on concerts for pretend audiences. Every car ride turns into a sing-a-long. I am a concert junkie, and will drive way too far to hear a musician I like play his/her songs live. Every significant event of my life has a soundtrack- songs that will always remind me of that particular moment and how it felt. I truly believe that music is powerful. It can bring back memories, change your mood, make you dance, make you sob, inspire you, heal you, break your heart, change your life. The right song at the right moment can feel so perfect it hurts, or hurt so much that it’s beautiful. There are artists who get me through good and bad moments, because they can convey the thing I was trying to say, but couldn’t quite capture. Over the last few years, I’ve discovered that actually making music is even better. That moment when you finish singing or playing and you just know it was GOOD- that’s probably one of the best feelings I know. It has allowed me to be creative and express myself in an incredibly personal way. And for all that, I am very thankful for music and the people that share it with me. This is the very first song I ever sang. I wasn’t old enough to speak complete sentences yet, but I could sing every word to this song. Don’t ask me why it was this particular song. But I’ve been singing ever since.
