Its been 40 years since the death of Evgeny Vuchetich, the Soviet sculptor of Montenegrin and French origin known for his heroic monuments, often of allegoric style. He was the author of the widely known statue Motherland Calls. It is perched upon an enormous hill above Volgograds Square of Mourning. The hill stands approximately 14 meters high and contains the buried remains of 35,505 soldiers, the defenders of Stalingrad. Get more info from our interactive image:
