I wanted to let folks know how were doing here. We had a scare - TopicsExpress

I wanted to let folks know how were doing here. We had a scare today with Dancer. She started showing some strange symptoms (panting, aggressiveness, wobbling, etc.) so I called our vet ASAP and got her in within the hour. I hopped in my car and made a beeline for our great vets at University Animal Hospital. Dancer had a nasty bout of Hypocalcemia (milk fever) which can be fatal if not caught in time. By the time I got to the vet, Dancer couldnt walk, stand, or control her bladder. Her muscles were stiffening more by the minute. Her calcium levels had dropped dangerously low. We had blood work done and she was on IVs and given IV calcium and glucose, her heart had to be monitored closely since too much calcium can trigger heart arrhythmia. She stayed about 4 hours and thank god she is now home and doing fine. Her calcium levels are back to normal, the catheter is out, and she is walking again. She is away from her babies for the next 24-48 hours. Ill be keeping a very close eye on her in the meantime to make sure she is OK. Keep her in your thoughts in the meantime!
