I was 14. My family evacuated from our house in Cutler Ridge to the west side of US 1, West Perrine near Pine Lake Elem. Both places were battered by the storm as we tried to keep the doors shut so the house would not collapse. It was torn to pieces. We went home to find our place destroyed. We lost nearly everything, even our beloved pets. The experience was terrifying and life changing. We survived and I thank God for that. And I thank all of those in Dade County that came together in the aftermath.
