I was 19 when I first heard a family contractor, Yap Yoke Tin, - TopicsExpress

I was 19 when I first heard a family contractor, Yap Yoke Tin, explaining why he wasnt able to finish a particular job because badan saya sudah asam. Pickled body? I didnt know what he was talking about and you wouldnt expect any teenager to know anything about any badan asam either. Last night, looking at our elderly street folks, struggling to take each step, somehow I thought of Yap Yoke Tin. Mukhlis Nor and Rahmah A Hamid, you do remember him, I am sure. There were so many elderly recipients lining up for food last night. The ones who needed help were promptly served by our eager volunteers. The elderly had aches and pains and struggled to take each step. Somehow I was aching too last night and sympathised with them. But I was amused to watch our young volunteers trying to identify who really needed assistance and who was just taking advantage to be specially served. Rest assured, they are generally good and dont take advantage. Meanwhile, the line for those below 50 years of age grew longer. The wait became longer too. Some young ones became restless and looked for opportunities to complain. But we have a system in place and it is best to observe our protocols because they make sure we distribute fairly and efficiently. I wonder what was in the air last night because by the time we got to Sungkai I was aching quite uncomfortably too. My bones felt so asam. But I went home to a comfortable bed while the elderly street folks slept on the damp concrete floors, their bodies surely aching and feeling asam. Tiger Balm aside, having some warm food and hot drinks certainly help to make sleep more comfortable.
