I was accosted by volunteers of an NGO ... after a lot of sales - TopicsExpress

I was accosted by volunteers of an NGO ... after a lot of sales pitch (they seem to know less about their NGOs than I) and bit of bargaining, I ended up poorer ... Since humans interest me (from far ... farther the better) I was chatting with my volunteer ... apparently he is a BE from Ranchi; has come to Pune for MBA ... Since I have had my fortune of working with lot of BE s of the un-studious kind ... (I prefer that as clean slate is better), I asked him what stream ... he is EXTC ... So I asked him what is the frequency of human voice ... he said some mega Hz ... now isnt that a wonderful thing? People can move their lips, exercise their larynx and glottis and appear to speak, but you cant hear ... Ideal World! LOL! --- Some other time I was visited by two engineers ... they also were volunteers for some NGO ... they told me they were from IIT ... after the necessary sales pitch and bit of haggling I issued a cheque ... But somehow the image of the boys and IIT, simply did not match ... so I checked their FB profiles ... they were from IIT alright ... but IIT was Indira Institute of Technology ... somewhere in Panvel or Belapur ... and one of the chaps was a distant cousin of world renowned musician ... During Emergency there was a slogan coined India is Indira and Indira is India ... but then this was stretching too far! I dont mind hearing people out about their charities and if they look alight I dont mind contributing(*), but gaining entry by misrepresenting facts is not done, even if the cause is genuine! Why did I let them in? Simply because I am curious about people and the importance we as people attach to Labels ... and this was a good opportunity to study IIT fresher at close range. Once an employee from an MNC Bank visited me, he was MBA from IIM, Kolkata and his finance knowledge was pathetic! (* For example: There is this charity I used to contribute ... it is orphanage for girls; the phone calls are made by volunteers; they do not send pamphlets my snail mail. The volunteers actually spend time and teach the kids. I visited the orphanage to check if the NGO I am supporting is worth it. The place was reasonably clean and pleasant. One of my friends has built a hospital in rural AP. Now that is something I can contribute without a thought, as I know the person for some time. I certainly dont want to sponsor a ship which will protest in New Zealand waters against dumping nuclear waste. I would rather the charity does something in India [~20% of the population] in the sphere of malnutrition, education, healthcare, drinking water. Rest of the world can take care of itself!)
